Blog Post #5 part B

http://image.shutterstock.com

My PLN changed throughout the semester thanks to blogger, communication, and collaboration. My PLN  is growing with every blog post I make, from learning more things about teaching, and from learning how to communicate with teachers, students, and others. I think my PLN is growing with every EDM310 class. PLN teaches me how to work with a group and help each other to do the project. I discovered many websites and tools that I did not know about before that I can use in my future classroom.

C4T # 4

I was assigned the teacher Tina Barseghian. In the first blog post," Some Straggles Teachers Face Using Games",she wrote about how it is good  use games as a part of instruction. In some schools, it is accepted and encouraged, but some schools do not use the game.

The second blog post was "What Can Programmer And Writers Learn From One Another?".In this blog post, she wrote about a famous programmer, Donald Knuth, who championed the idea of the "Literate Programmer" and the idea that code should be writing for humans, not just machines. In fact, programmer "elegance" should be central in the teaching of programming language.

Blog post #14

In the Article by Joel Klein, he wrote about some problems in the education system:
-The academic training for teachers is good.
-Teacher are rewarded based on seniority not merit.
-What makes good teachers?
http://cache1.asset-cache.net/xc/464242707.jpg?v=2&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=YgaXqBYj7lsi5tIeRJnWn-URJao63JJyjP5tmt7wnZg1

I agree with what he says about how training should make sure the teacher has enough knowledge to teach. I do not think that just smart people or anyone with higher education can teach. To be professional teacher you should know how to  make the student love what they are learning and to look forward to what they are learning next; this makes a professional teacher. I see Dr. Strange as a professional teacher. I am a student whose second language is English and the class, EDM310 , is very difficult for me. But, Dr.Strange and the lab assistants showed me a way to help me understand the class and because of their help I have learned a lot.
I think the teacher should be rewarded based on how long she has taught, but I also think that after more than five years in a row, teachers should take a year off. I think when teachers teach
for too many years they can feel tired and they don't teach as well.

What makes good teachers?
The answer is that we can not know if a teacher is effective unless we observe them. To see if a student has an increased grade over the year.We should see how the teacher teaches in classroom and ask the principle to observe the teachers work and get the opinions of the students and others teachers.

Assessment:

How we can use project based learning in science?
http://media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com

1- Watch the video: Exploring Science: Working Scientifically -- embedding formative assessment
2- Watch the video: Plant PBL - Kindergarten Science Project
3- Answer the question in a post that adheres to the standards found in the ACCRS and in Writing A
Quality Blog Post.

In the video Exploring Science: Working Scientifically -- embedding formative assessment we see Dr. Angela Hall explain the importance of formative assessment and how schools can use it to support and enhance their learners' experience of science, and some examples of how it can be incorporated in Pearson's Exploring science. The Pearson exploring science is a great way to teach science.

In the video Plant PBL - Kindergarten Science Project we see that the teacher made a circle map illustrating every thing we know about planting flowers. They developed a driving question to guide their learning .They developed the guide to help us determine what flower to plant. They observed their plants every couple of days and wrote down their observations. Based on growth and appearance they chose Vinca to plant in the front circle. They ended with their real world application piece and planted flowers. Parents were asked to come and help as a part of their public audience piece. This  project shows how important project based learning is.

The first blog post by Steven was "Connecting Student To The World". He writes about how interest in technology allows people to learn more things like writing skills, how to research, and how to connect. I commented, "Hi Steven. I agree with you about how blogging is a simple way to connect the student to the world. I think technology opens the door to connect the knowledge and education."

The second blog post by Steven was"Ensure Success This School". He writes about how to  ensure success, and he gives simple things the student can do to ensure success, like establish relationships, set goals, get connected, and celebrate the good things. I commented, "Hi Steven, I really enjoyed reading your blog post. I like your way to show the way to success."

What Can We Learn About Teaching And Learning From These Teachers?
http://img-bie-org.s3.amazonaws.com

The first video was Back to The Future by Brian Crosby. In the first video, when he asks the students some questions about  what their city, state, address, or phone number is, most of them don't know. This happened on the second day of school. After that he gives them the possibilities like empowerment, connection, motivation, inclusion, activity, and collaboration. He teaches them to write blog posts about it. The students learn a lot when they use the blog to read, write, clarify, and share feedback, writing to tell stories, creativity, authentic audience, and remember the science, high hopes, and art.

The blended learning cycle video. Paul  Anderson explains how he is using the blended learning cycle in his science class. The blended learning is done online and in the classroom. Together they are used to engage, explore, explain, expand, and evaluate the cycle. They move through the following to understand these steps: question, investigation/inquiry, video, elaboration, review, and summary quiz.

The making thinking visible by Mark Church. He spoke about how the teacher got his students to work  in small groups. The students learn that they need to discuss and connect what they know. This is a good way to teach them to make thinking visible.

Super digital Citizen by Sam Pane. He teaches his students about how to create superheroes and be safe, responsible, and respectful online. He teaches the students to write narratives to develop imagined experiences or events. He teaches them to analyze how visual and multimedia elements contribute to text and to ask and answer questions.

Project Based Learning by Dean Shareski. This video shows three teachers speaking about how they restructured their day to incorporate the project based learning and how important and useful PBL can be.

Roosevelt Elementary PBL Program. It explains about how to use project based learning in class. They start giving the students public speaking to help them to not be nervous or shy. Project based learning teaches the students how to work together.

Blog Post #10

What can we learn from Mrs. Cassidy?

First Graders in Mrs. Cassidy class. I saw in video student show how they can use the classroom webpage, and blog. I think the blog post it is good idea to practice the skill writing, when the student use the Skype in classroom. They learn to speak with quest speaker. It is good way to get another teacher or any one from another world. In wikis the student learns about the project and when they edit.

The first interview with Mrs. Cassidy. She spoke about when she start used the technology in her classroom with five computers before ten year age. She give good example how the technology can be used to teach the student skill writing and find the information from the internet.

The second interview with Mrs. Cassidy. I like the idea use the blog to develop the skill writing and, it allow the student engaged to other writing. The parents will approach. They can view what the student work online.

The third interview with Mrs. Cassidy. She answered of Dr. Stranger’s student questions. I learn and found much information when she answers the question about use the technology in classroom.

Blog Post# 9

Seven Essentials For Project Based Learning. I learned from this that lesson plans need to use steps to work very well. The first step we need to know here is that the teacher could powerfully activate students' need to know content by launching a project with one "entry event" that gauges interest and initiates questioning. An entry event can be any thing like a video, a lively discussion,  a guest  speaker, and a field trip. A good driving question captures the heart of the project in clear, compelling language, which gives students purpose and a challenge. The project without a driving question is like an essay without a thesis.

Project based learning for teacher is good because it is inquiry based, open-ended, has problem-solving, and is personalized. The video shows many facts about PBL. This video shows skills that students will use for the rest of their lives like collaboration skills, critical thinking skills, communication skills, and career and life skills.

Project based learning and physical education. This article shows how you can use project based learning. The PBL gives the students relevant and authentic task problems.

What motivates students. I learned what types of things to say that motivates students to do well, and the students can be motivated in many different ways. For example, like when the student hears you say "good job". The student wants to do well in life.

Project based learning with PE. It shows that project based learning activities can be done in PE, as well as in the classroom. It is a good idea because we need to teach the students physical fitness to use in real life.

Randy Pausch was a professor at University Carnage Molten."The Last lecture " is title the lecturer . This lecture spoke about an educator, knowledge, learning and a dream. He has a way of making education easy to understand and fun. He shows us how fun can be a good way to teach students and how teachers can use that to teach students difficult things through fun.

He spoke about his childhood dream to work on the engineering team at Disney but, he does think the best way to help students find their dreams is to become a teacher. When he teaches he doesn't limit his students on what they are working in their projects.

I think the message of Randy Pausch is everyone needs some body to help them and we need to keep trying for our dreams. I will teach that to my students in my future class room. To show the

Implications and Teaching Opportunities For Camera Use in Teaching And Learning.

Part A:
The recent "Study By Zogby Analytice". This report regarding young people aged 18-24. 80% says that the very first thing they do in the morning is reach for their smartphones. 90% they say that having a camera on their smartphone is important (61%very important). This makes the smartphone a very important tool for students to study with and do school work with. Most students use the camera to take pictures of power-points or pages of homework.

I think the smartphone can help students to do research and make studying very easy. Smartphones can help the student learn another  language very easily when they download the Google translate app. The student can use the dictionary app to look up the meaning the word to help them in their homework.

Part B:
I think project based learning is a good way to give the students freedom to do or make any thing they want or care about. The lesson they learn can give the student classroom time to reflect. The reflection shows the student can do a skill the correct way and the student can enhance their education.

C4T#2 Post 1 and 2

I was assigned with "Thinking /Stick". The first post spoke about privacy in Google to use information and the bank to keep data safe. He writes about what we love in technology, like when we do a Google search, and at the same time we hate the technology, like when they know so much about us. My comment was, "Hi! I think the privacy with technology is difficult. We trust Google and at the same time  we worry about the information or images they have of us."
The second post about "We Need Better Presentation ". He wrote about how a bad presentation is just a bullet point heavy slide that doesn't engage the audience in any way. My comment was, "Hi Jeff!I agree with you about how we need better presentations. We don’t need another generation growing up believing that presentations are about bullet points." He wrote about how to make good presentations.
1-Take every bullet point and put it on its own slide.
2- Images-find big beautiful images that help form the point.
3-Handouts are your friends.
4-A presentation is about the presenter not the slide deck.
5-Expect more from our students. We need to do more for the students.

How Do We All Become Learners?
This video is very helpful to me to see the fact of the teacher and classroom at work. I am not good
with technology and I think it is my weakness. My strength is that I will learn a lot from the class EDM310 and I will apply what I am learning in my classroom.

How to make an audio QR code. This video shows me step by step how to create my own QR code. It is easy to understand and follow the steps. After I graduate, I will use it in my classroom. I will create an audio QR code that will allow me to read stories to my students from a recording.

Reading Center. This video is very helpful. The students used the iPads to record themselves while  reading and than they go back to check if they have mistakes. This way allows the students to help teach themselves.

Poplet as a Center. This is a good app to teach the students how to create the small slide show to see what the students know about the book they read. The students take pictures from the book and add text to the pictures they take until they have enough to make a small slide show.

Alabama virtual library as kindergarten center. In this video we learn about a website where students can search for the meaning of a word, and the site gives them pictures for the word and they should draw and write sentence about it.

Student's sharing board builder. This video shows how you can use the board builder app to allow students to work together on a project by sharing what they found on the Internet about the project.

Using iMovie and virtual library in kindergarten. This video shows Dr. Strange and two teachers teaching kindergarten. They spoke about how students in kindergarten can use iMovie and make book trailers.

We all become Learners. In this video, we see the teachers teaching the students and the students teaching the teacher. This is a good thing because the students can make lessons teaching, and they want to teach what they are learning.

C4K summery of September

I was assigned Frankie's Blog, one of Mrs. Lgitupu's students. In Frankie's blog he wrote a letter to the prime minister about has worries of the use of plastic bags. He wrote about the dangers of using the plastic bags and the damage that can be done in our creatures . I commented, "Hi Frankie. I agree with you that plastic bags should be banned from the water. I think the plastic bags do not break down in water and they are killing our creatures."

I was assigned Madame Thamoase. The blog post name is My Mark. She spoke about making a mark in world and about the power of the educator and collaboration. I like how it is the goal of connected educators around the word to help as many students as possible. I commented, "Madame! I agree with you. I believe in the power of educators and how important it is to connect education around the world to help as many as students as possible."

I was assigned Noah's blog. The blog name is "School Change". He wrote about making the change in school rules to be more flexible. I commented, "Hi Noah ! I agree that we need to change some things in the school to be more flexible, but all the rules are there to protect the rights of all students."

Project Based Learning Part 1 and 2:Experiences of 3rd Grade Teacher. The project based learning can cover a variety of different subjects in one project and is effective for learning the content. I learned how to create a PBL plan, and it is more appealing to students. The important thing is that you should go by the standards of the state to make sure the student is learning the content that is needed. iCurio is a site which allows students to safely search websites and filter them for eduction purposes. Discovery Education is a site that has taken mostly all lesson plans and turned them into videos for students. This is good for the classroom and enriches the students' learning experience. In the Anthony -Strange List of Tips for teachers Part 1, they explain that the teacher should be interested in learning. The teacher has to be creative in order to come up with lesson plans and be flexible. Don't Teach Tech -Use It. In this video, Dr.Strange and Mr.Capps explain the good thing about allowing for the students to use technology. As a teacher, you shouldn't be surprised if the student is better at creating PowerPoint than you, but make sure you can help when they have questions.

What is PLN you may ask?
A PLN is a personal learning network made up of the people and tools that someone can call upon for help, consultation, collaboration or other assistance. According to building your PLN -A prime tool for anyone, it connects you to people around the world. I agree with the idea of having a network of people to communicate ideas with. The symbaloo allows you a way to organize everything in one location like eduction sites and social sites. You can use the web site Netvibes to organize and keep track of your PLN resources. Both symbaloo and Netvibes are effective.

After I read the My wonderful PLN, I realized that it is very important for teachers to have PLNs. As a teacher, I need it to do more research on any particular thing. A PLN is supportive, as Buyuksimkesyan said in her blog. The addition to my PLN will be other teachers. I do it now in Blogger. I have to start following Dr. Strange.

I was assigned Doug Peterson's post. The first post I read was improved word press. He talks about  how you can make a blog on blogger and word press. He describes the word press editor, and he thinks the editor is simpler for students to use than blogger. I commented, "Hi, I am a student at the University of South Alabama.I like the way you assist your students in making their first blog as easily as possible."

The second post I read was about student engagement. This post was about how Mr.Doug Peterson participated with Sophia Mavridi in a panel discussion at 5th foreign language from Athens, Greece. This way students could  learn fast. This means compliance and academic achievement come faster to the students . I commented that I could use these in my future classroom that will be helpful to the students.

Blog post #4

What questions do we ask? How do we ask?

Ben Johnson brought up some points in his article "The right way to ask questions". This article explains that it is important to ask questions and make sure your students are understanding the material you teach them. He selected students randomly. This keeps the students interested in the questions he asks.

I like how he asks the students for their opinions on the subject. This helps the other students to understand the material and your students must listen to what you are teaching to be able to answer your question. This keeps the students engaged by looking at the process in a different light.

I learned a good strategy that when we ask questions, make sure to give the student enough time to answer and never interrupt the student while they are answering. Tell the students to not be afraid to  ask wrong questions because he or she thinks it is a stupid question. I think as the teacher, I should encourage them to ask questions.

How can you provide meaningful feedback to your peers?

Peer editing means working with someone your own age or class to help improve, revise and edit his or her writing. There are three in peer editing  .The first one is to compliment the writer, and it is one of the most important steps in peer editing. Remember to stay positive. The second step is to make suggestions,to give clear suggestion and to help about word choice ,details, organization, sentence and topic. The third step is to make corrections. To make good correction , look for mistakes in grammars , spelling, missing or incorrect punctuation and incomplete or run-on sentences. Finally  is stay  positive.

Mr. Dancealot
1-The message of the video is you cannot teach by reading the objective of the course from a power point slide.
2- No practice. The students don't know what they should do in the final exam, like the end of the video.
3-I agree with the conclusion. He did not allow the students to ask any questions. They just sat, listening and taking notes.

1-You can find the information easily.
2-What the difference is between entertainment and engagement.
3-The technology helps to give relevant content and challenge them.
4-Shows the students how to use technology skills for searches.

The technology makes it for the teacher easy to find the information by using the computer and Smart Board.
3- Networkedstudent
I agree, the video shows me that we still need teachers to teach the information.
4-Harnessyour student digital smarts
I like the way Vicki Davis teaches her students. She is teaching them how they can find the information and how they can teach together and her. She is a great teacher.
5-Who's Ahead in the Learning Race
The elementary students are learning very easily to use the iPod and Mac book. They learn to do any programs very fast. When we are students in college, now, we begin to do it.
6- Flippingthe class room?
This is the first time I’ve heard about the flipping. I think the approach will be useful to content the students. The flipping helps the teacher have more time for all her students and all the students are engaged and challenged.

Blog Assignment #1

What about EDM 310?

1. What are the things (if any) you have heard about EDM310?

The only things that I have heard about EDM310 is that I would need to spend more time working on the assignments for this class and that it can very difficult if you procrasinate. One positive thing that I have heard about EDM310 is that as a student, it can be very helpful, and I will learn many new things about technology and how to incorporate it into my daily life as a teacher in the future.

2. What fears (if any) do you have about EDM310?

One of my biggest fears is my language. Sometimes I cannot understand what I may be being taught, so it can place a strain on me as I try to complete my assignments. I am positive that I will meet deadlines, but I definitely need to make sure that I am able to understand what I should be doing first.

3. Compare and contrast EDM310 with other courses you have taken in college or high school.

When I finished high school in Iraq which was 10 + years ago, there was no modern technology, if any. I have never had a class like EDM310.

4. What do you think will be the most difficult thing for you in EDM310?

The most difficult thing for me in EDM310 will be trying to deal with not only my language barrier, but I might have trouble working primarily online and using technology on a daily basis for assignments.

5. What is the best way for you to address this “most difficult” aspect of EDM310?

I have begun to seek help already for my problem area, and I realized that one solution is managing my time wisely. I know that this class can possibly be a troublesome class because of my obstacles, but if I manage my time well, I can tackle the assignments head first.

6. What questions do you still have about EDM310? What ideas do you have about how to address those questions?

I do not have any questions, but my suggestion is that the class should have a class lab that not only serves to help the student with technology, but one that explains step by step what I should know how to do for the class. Everyone may not be as comfortable with using technology, but may want to complete the class and learn. A lab that taught more background information about technology would be great.

Hello, my name is Makia Ghsid. I am thirty seven years old. I live in Mobile, Alabama. I have a husband and three kids. My oldest son name is Waleed. My only daughter’s name is Taif. My youngest son name is Saoud. They are very helpful, especially when it comes with my studies. My major is Elementary Education, and I want to be a wonderful teacher. My first major was nursing, but I did not like it because i could not handle all the blood. I then switched to Education. Now I love it! I want to help children to become successful in life. I really don't want money, I just want to do what I have dreamed about over a long period of time. It means a lot to me to become a teacher in the twenty first century. I want to help them reach their goals and become who they want to be. I want to make them have fun and learn at the same time. I will be funny and serious. I want them to make learning easy and not make them bored. I hope this class helps me do that.
