Blog post #4

What questions do we ask? How do we ask?

Ben Johnson brought up some points in his article "The right way to ask questions". This article explains that it is important to ask questions and make sure your students are understanding the material you teach them. He selected students randomly. This keeps the students interested in the questions he asks.

I like how he asks the students for their opinions on the subject. This helps the other students to understand the material and your students must listen to what you are teaching to be able to answer your question. This keeps the students engaged by looking at the process in a different light.

I learned a good strategy that when we ask questions, make sure to give the student enough time to answer and never interrupt the student while they are answering. Tell the students to not be afraid to  ask wrong questions because he or she thinks it is a stupid question. I think as the teacher, I should encourage them to ask questions.

  1. Makia, I enjoyed reading your take on the blog assignment. It is important for us as future educators to understand the right way to ask our students questions. One strategy that I read about was waiting three seconds before calling on a student. This strategy gives all of your students a chance to think about their answer before you call on a specific student. As teachers, I believe we should make sure to include all of our students in class. Not just the students that raise their hands.
